Find you state school nurse association and find out if they are having a school nurse orientation. http://www.nasn.org/Default.aspx?tabid=60
Some states have started offering mentoring programs for new school nurses
There are other great resources on the NASN website http://www.nasn.org Check out the bookstore

Yay for lunch and pee breaks! LOL
I attended a "New to School Nursing" seminar in Atlanta by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. If you are in GA, the one for this year is on the 28th, just e-mail me and I'll send you the information. I also read A LOT of websites...as a matter of fact, it seems like I remember bookmarking a site by the person above me here...but I could be wrong. It's a great site, but it's bookmarked on my computer at school and I don't have access to it or I'd give you the link.
Good luck with your new job! love it, I hope you do as well :)
Hi Erica -- congratulations!!! I have used the NASN, CDC (cdc.gov ) and my states DPH websites for so much info -- from on-line posters (handwashing, cover a cough), to immunization information and handouts, food allergies, and of course - head lice. Other sites I've used are medlineplus.com, foodallergies.org, and headlice.org. My state ,MA , also has a school health manual that is given to all the schools which is most helpful.
As far as lunch and pee breaks, I have 650 kids in my school and I go many a day without either!! I have hopes of being a bit more assertive about lunch once school starts up again. But it's rare for me to ever have an empty office -- I am determined though!!
Good luck to you Erica -- I'm sure you'll be great!!

Help! I really have no idea where to go from here :) Anything I need to buy, research, look into etc etc etc before starting in August? I know I need to review my immunization schedules. Are there any good books one would recommend? In my last job, I had a 6 month orientation, with a mentor with me every step of the way. It is a little freaky to me that I won't have anyone there to hold my hand, but I'm SO EXCITED! Imagine, me getting a lunch and getting to pee EVERY DAY lol.
Thanks for any help!
