Hi all--
I currently work med/surg and have applied for a job across the country. I got the phone call today requesting a telephone interview on Monday. I worked L and D for 3 months as my capstone before graduation, and it's my dream job!!! Any input as to what I can anticipate being asked would be great :)

I graduate May 6th. I have interviewed at 2 seperate hopsitals. I was asked Behavior Based Interview questions at both of them. HR asked me some BBI questions, the manager asked me some BBI questions, and the peer team asked me BBI questions.
You can do a google search to find BBI examples. They are generally...."Tell me about a time when you ahve excellent customer service. What did you do and what what the result?" or "tell me about a time wheb you had to deal with a difficult co-worker. What did you did you do, and was working with the coworkeer difficult after?" Questions like that. They are looking for E. A. R. The example, the action you took, and the result. Being put on the spot for questions you aren't expecting is rough. I HIGHLY recomend reserching examples and practicing and figuring out what you will. You don't want to fumble over your words!!
Good Luck!
p.s. I was asked for my CVICU interview (which I got btw ) "If you could be any animal in the zoo, what would you be and why".....I wasn't expecting THAT question!! lol!
P.P.S. pardon the misspellings. I went out after class with a few nursing friends to celebrate and have had a few glasses of wine haha

I actually had an interview yesterday, actually 3-in-one... I interviewed with HR first, then an administrator, then a 3rd interview with a DON who then called in her assistant don to join us. Whole grueling process was about 3 hrs. including a little tour.
Questions included the usual, ie: strengths, weaknesses, how I'd handled difficult doctor's in the past, why I had left past jobs, how I would handle situations (ex: I just came on shift and found a patient had refused his psych med and as I was standing there he hit another patient.. what would I do), why I wanted to work there, when I could start if I was hired, why they should hire me, and also if I could think of anything that would get in the way of my being able to perform on the job. That's all I remember right now!
Good luck with the phone interview. I had one once.... it's good because you can have notes spread out in front of you to look at while you interview!

How do you deal with conflict?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Have you ever made a mistake? If so, how did you handled it?
What can you tell me about yourself?/How do you describe yourself?
How do other supervisors describe you?
Why do you want to work here?
Good luck!

I've only had one interview (I'm about to graduate and got the first job I interviewed for, which was also my dream job lol!) But the questions were mostly behavioral, like the other posters said. Think about situations such as how you deal with conflict, how you would deal with a hard patient/family, what do you do to relieve stress, tell me about a time when you had a miscommunication and what did you do, etc. The worst question I got was what is the hardest decision you've ever had to make. I was so scared that they were going to give me specific clinical scenarios to solve, but I didn't get any questions like that. I don't know what other facilities are like though. Good luck!!!
Ps- something that I like to do before interviews is write out potential questions and answers so that I feel more prepared when I get there. It might help!
