I want to get into the nursing college at my school... its so competative that I only get one chance to apply. I have the minimum GPA to get in but I am competing with 3.0-4.0. I am considering waiting until next year to apply so that i can raise my GPA but then i'll be wasting yet another year of college taking unnecessary classes. I thought i would get a degree in something else and go back to school for an accelerated degree? are these degree hard to get? i was also thinking about using my spare time to pick up a minor, which minor would be beneficial? please someone help me with some guidence i'm feeling really lost and depressed.

thanx!!!!!!

Specializes in ICU, psych, corrections.

I intend on eventually obtaining my CRNA license and the way I'm doing it is this:

*I'm currently in an ADN program, scheduled to receive my RN in May 2005.

*I will work for a few years in ICU, PICU, etc. while taking classes at the university to obtain my BSN (which should only take me a year and a half at the most due to my having all the other core curriculum classes completed needed for a Bachelor's) and having the hospital pay for it (they have a tuition reimbursement program).

*I will continue working in an ICU or the equivalent while doing my Master's and shopping around for CRNA schools.

*I will pick my CRNA schools and apply.

*During this whole time, my husband and I will be saving up enough money so that I can go unemployed while attending the CRNA program I am accepted into.

I hope to accomplish these goals by age 40 (I just turned 30)

Only God knows if I will actually reach all of these goals, but I will be trying my damndest to accomplish them.

thanx for replying! I hope to get my plan together as well as u have.:)

I tell ya, if you are thinking about picking up a minor, I suggest Spanish. It's probably the most useful thing you could do. If you don't live in an area with a hispanic population or don't think you will move to an area like that, then just go for something fun, like dance, music, theater or something that you enjoy. If you want to get into grad school later, it'll help if you do have a minor. It's always good to be well rounded.

I too want to be a CRNA eventually. There is a pretty good program here locally that I hope to get into. I am hoping that when I get out of LPN school I can go to work for the hospital system that runs it and let them pay for my advancement up the ladder to that goal. It's a long way from LPN to CRNA, but I think I can do it!

I am not sure exactly what you are saying. Are you already in college with another major and want to switch to a nursing major? If this is the case I suggest you make an appointment with the dean of the nursing college and ask her exactly what you should be doing until you can apply again. I had this happen when I first returned to college and the dean told me exactly what I needed to look more favorably in the next application. You can also look at other colleges that have nursing programs and apply to all of them.

That wasn't me, it was RNnTraining1973. I was kinda wondering the same thing myself. I only figured that maybe the CRNA school she wanted to go to only offered a post-master's certificate.
