I finally got an interview at Martin Health, North in Stuart!

As you can see the title says it all. I have lived in the treasure coast for just about a year, and have also worked for just about a year at Indian river medical center. I love my coworkers and definitely don't want to break the news to them until I know if I have a job offer or not. One of the many reasons I want to leave is travel time, and money.... I work nights and barely make the hour long drive home every morning. But I have important questions, which I know would be inappropriate in an interview setting... So I come to you all on here and hope a martin health nurse reads this. What is the payscale and benefits like? I am told at Indian river we are the lowest paying in the region. Which trust me, my wallet knows! But I want to know what to expect, is it better pay, but worse benefits? I currently have blue cross blue shield with a 100.00 deductible for 136.00 twice a month. And my pay rate is embarrassing, I am an RN with a BSN with experience and made more as an LPN up north... But anyway. Pay scale and benefits is definitely an important concern, but even more importantly.... What is the nursing culture like? Do they all mostly get along? I am interviewing for 6 East from my understanding it sounds like a general med surg floor. What are the patient nurse and patient tech ratios like? On my floor I can currently max out at 7 patients. Is there a set uniform there? At Indian River we are still allowed to wear cute colorful scrubs. I know a lot of hospitals have decided to go to blues.... Which means ill need to buy some new (plain :/ ) scrubs. I have been applying to Martin since I moved here and its taken a year for even a call back for an interview so I really want to nail this. I would rather rock an interview and wind up getting the job, or if things aren't as good as it seems, I can at least respectfully decline and try again when my needs change. I want some insider tips because like I said my safety coming home after working all night is one of my priorities as well as my desire to get paid what I feel I am worth. I wish my hospital was closer to home, but with long travel times plus low pay, a lot of my hard earned money gets spent on getting me just back and forth. I want a better opportunity for myself and family, but I almost feel guilty even thinking about leaving cause I have really grown close to my coworkers. Any advice would be appreciated :) thanks everyone!

Hi and congrats on the interview. It's been long enough since you posted this that I hope you have heard back and I hope the news was good. I interviewed there last week and am looking for some of the same info you were. If you got the job, can you tell me what the pay and benefits are like?

Thanks!

Hi authentic, I interviewed today haven't heard much. I got a lot of positive vibes from the interviewing staff however I definitely felt a little stage fright, its the first time in my career I have been interviewed by three people at once! Oh my goodness! I feel like I got it in the bag but then again management is always nice and exude positivity when trying to attract new employees. They answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I haven't heard much about pay and benefits, was told if I am considered for employment that I would hear from human resources with the offer salary and benefits information. I am currently employed at Indian river medical center I know the pay scale and benefits I can get at my current job. I just have been lookin at Martin health because I would much prefer a shorter commute home. I hate my hourly wage, I feel I am grossly underpaid, but I will have to see what and if martin offers and weigh my options. I was impressed with what I seen and liked my tour and the staff that interviewed me but again like I said people are nice when they need fresh meat. Definitely prefer the lay out of my unit where I currently work better, but change isn't always a bad thing. If I hear anything ill let you know. I wish you the best of luck, maybe we will meet on general orientation haha :)

Got an offer and was sent benefit info. I was offered just shy a dollar more per hour than what I normally get, the benefits weren't all that great. You only accrue PTO, where I am we get PTO holiday and a few other things. So I earn more paid time quicker and health insurance is better at my current job. Think as much as I want the change in my life, now is a terrible time, my husband needs a full work up and is sick right now, and for what I'd spend out of pocket according to this benefits package I need to work a lot so I can break even. At least I was given an offer :). If you have a medical condition I'd encourage you come to my job, the benefits make up for a dollar less an hour. If you not hear back, my job doesn't have a "novice nurse" program but I know we do hire new grads. Take it easy and good luck!

When you respond tell them that unfortunately it would not be in you or your family's best interest financially and medically to accept the offer blah blah blah nicey nice, and you never know, they may come back with more. They know what you make now so aren't going to bend over backwards to up it a whole lot at first.

Thanks for sharing the info and congrats on getting the offer even if you don't take it. There are so many factors to consider. I did get the position in the novice nurse program and accepted the offer. It is significantly lower pay than another hospital I interviewed for but as a new grad, I like the idea of going in through a program. Hope I'm making the right choice :)
