If my spelling is off I aplogize it is late and I have been searching the answer to a friends homework question for about 4 hours. She is a student nurse and in a microbiology class. She came to me today with help on a homework question and I can not find the answer. Could some one PLEASE help us. Quesstion is................
There is a lack of orange-red pigmentation in some of the growth on your agar slant labeled S. marcescens. Does this necessarily indicate the presence of a contaminant?
From what I could find I would say "NO, Although the Serriatia Marscencens is a red bacterium that is common and known for it's bright red color this bloody pigment is found to deteriorate quickly."
Is my answer at all correct?
Thank you

A chemical reaction occurs at a certain temp (can't remember if it is 24 or 37 degrees celcius) that causes the red pigment.
