I am doing a critical research project and would be grateful of ideas

Published

Hi

I am currently doing a Access to Higher Education Diploma, and have an assignment of a research project relating to my chosen subject of study at university which is adult nursing.

I must produce a report of 4,000 words using a research question but am struggling to find a question with enough literature to support it. In the report it must show my aim for the study, and show I am being clear and specific about my aim.The report must be critical and not bias in anyway. I must use qualitative and quantitative methods.

I have thought about writing a question like: Handwashing helps to prevent the spread of infections. Is the use of soap and water or alcohol based rubs more affective in preventing infections?

PLEASE help me to find a question with plenty of evidence that i can reference for my project

Many thanks :)

Have you done a literature search on your topic of hand washing? Did you see qualitative research on this topic? It is a topic that is more likely to have lots of quantitative research than qualitative research. Have you considered doing a topic that would be more likely to have both qualitative and quantitative research, for example the experience of graduate nurses in their first year of practice.

hello

Thank you for such a quick reply. Yes i have had a little look around on handwashing but like you say it has more quantitative research than qualitative research so that is kind of out the question tho it would of been an interest to me . I will look into your idea about graduate nurses.

thank you :)

How about therapies for smoking cessation? I don't have time to do any research into it, but I imagine there are tons of studies on this. You could look at nicotine replacement alone vs. nicotine replacement with counseling, support groups, motivational recordings, etc. I'd think there'd be a lot of qualitative data on patients' mood, discomfort, anxiety, etc. but also quantitative data on the success rates of different therapies.

Just a thought. good luck!

Hello

What a great idea I am going to research to over the weekend and see if it has enough research

Thankyou :)

I like the smoking cessation idea too, a tip to help locate qualitative research is to use the term "lived experience" and the topic. Try using "lived experience smoking cessation" it should result in several relevant qualitative articles. Good luck with your paper.
