hydralazine, enalaprat iv push

Published

Hello, I work on a tele/progressive unit .. I had a pt on a ventilator receiving bp control meds ... the schedule was ivp hydralazine 20 mg at 2330 and then ivp enalaprat 1.25 mg at 2359 ... does anyone know why this was scheduled this way (with the time lapse)? would it be dangerous to administer both at the same time? i searched the internet and haven't found any relevant information on the matter. the other nurses on the floor had nothing to offer on the matter.

Is it possible that one was initially scheduled and wasn't effective? I could see where a second drug was prescribed, but probably prn, not scheduled. Are there parameters for holding the vasotec after the hydralazine? They have different mechanisms of action, maybe one has been more effective than the other? I know at our hospital they would flag this patient for duplicate therapy, maybe you should bring it up to pharmacy to check into. It could be dangerous if the patient becomes hypotensive, but a 1.25mg dose isn't very high.
