I was wondering if anyone has worked at either hospital and if they enjoy working there. I am trying to compare the two. I wonder if one is better than the other or if they are the same. I have a interview at both but would love input from anyone. Thanks.

I worked at McLaren while in nursing school and was treated very well. I would definitely consider working there again. McLaren is in a "better" part of town than Hurley but it's all Flint so it's pretty relative. GL!

Did you have your interview yet? I agree with Jules Anne. Hurley is located right in the middle of an inner city neighborhood and is a Level I Trauma Center. It's probably good experience for someone interested in ER and Trauma. McLaren has an established cardiac program including cardiac surgery services. That would be the place for someone interested in that field.

Have you made your choice? You've likely already had your interviews so which impressed you most? Did you look at Genesys?

Hurley is also better for peds and ob.
My clinicals have all been at McClaren so far though.
And it's ok. Most of the nursing staff is very helpful and friendly.
Thanks for the replies. I worked at Genesys in peds and postpartum but left when I didnt get enough hours. I got canceled way too much. I work at St. Mary's in cardiac tele and miss the kids and babies. I decided I should follow my heart and go to Hurley. I took a job in cardiac tele the patient ratios are better and so are the benefits and pay. Its not my goal but its a start in the right direction.
Thanks

I know this is old but I have clinical at Hurley and I enjoy it there. Most people have been very helpful and willing to share their knowledge. Clinical this semester is second shift and they won't let us walk out by ourselves but I haven't had any issues yet. (Hope I didn't just jinx myself! LOL) I haven't done clinical anywhere else but I do have extensive experience as a patient and mother of patients with several other hospitals, most in Ann Arbor.
Hope everything works out for you! :)
