Hello,

I will be relocating to Huntsville area soon. Do the Redstone orificenal have a military hospital. I'm a CNA, in school now for my Nursing Pre-reqs.

What are the hospitals like in the civilian sector.

Thanks for your help.

Hey, there is a medical hospital on the orificenal...I can't remember for the life of me the name of it though, I've only known one person whose worked there, they were in the military and she never had anything bad to say about it...definently check out Huntsville Hospital (www.huntsvillehospital.org) I was a CNA (nurse tech) there for two years while in nursing school and I loved it, very big with great opportunities after you get out of nursing schools....as far as schools Calhoun Community College is a great school (it has a contract with Alabama A & M University if you are wanting a BSN)...anyway, good luck!

I am located in Huntsville. The hospital on Redstone orificenal base is Fox Army hospital. It has inpatient facilities (our Naval Reserve unit used to do clinicals there) but it is small and primarily outpatient. I don't know if they hire CNAs. The phone number for the information desk is 256-313-4636. Definitnately check out Huntsville Hospital and Crestwood Hospital, both excellent places of work. If you want fast-pace big-time intensive care type stuff, HH is the place. I worked there many years. But Crestwood is rapidly growing and expanding as well. I teach LPNs students and we do clinicals at both. Let me know if you can't find the phone numbers.

They don't have any inpatient services there now and even the clinics are run on a skeleton staff. However, Redstone is bringing in something like 4700 new jobs over the next couple of years, so the clinic should definitely grow. I spoke with the clinic commander a couple of weeks ago, and he says his hands are tied as far as hiring. I tried!

Huntsville a good place to work but Human recources can be a nightmare. If you want a job and have CNA experience make sure after you turn in a application (able to do online) you call and speak with the nurse manager of the unit. If you wait for human recourses you will be waiting weeks, even months. They do that to nurses too. If you can't find hte name of hte nurse manager call the unit and ask for her name and then ask for the extention to her office. 256-265-1000 is the operator. If they are truly interested the nurse manager will expedite the process. Good luck

I grew up in Huntsville, RedStone as oneof the people said is going to be brining in approx. 10,000 new residents in a year or so. They believe the population of Huntsville will expand by over 30,000K by the time all this is done. I recommend you look at living in Madison, VERY nice little town to live in and very very close to Huntsville.

Hospitals

Huntsville Hospital-a HUGE hospital, with three or four different sections, a Childrens/Womens center, a Heart Center, a Ortho Center, and the main hospital.

Crestwood- another hospital thats growing and getting better

Columbia-I believe this is the name of the new hospital they have there.

You may also want to consider doing Athens Limestone General Hopsital over in Athens, but certainly HH or Crestwood is the way to go.

Atl_John, we have no such thing as a Columbia hospital, and madison is far from being "little", its about the size of huntsville now, and rapidly expanding everyday.
