Hi everyone! My husband's employer might be transferring us to Huntsville. I am looking for opinions, experiences, & advice about moving to the area.

What is overall feel & attitude at Huntsville Hospital. How is the ER there? Is it possible to get a day shift position? How much experience is needed to seek a PRN position & how many hours can you pick up? Thanks y'all!!! ?

Hi,

I am not a nurse yet, but I am very familiar with Huntsville. I am a 25 year law enforcement retiree and I know almost every inch of Huntsville if you need information on neighborhoods, crime, etc. Huntsville is an amazing city. It is very High-tech, clean, and our economy is ranked among the strongest in the entire country. You can google and see videos and articles about our city. It has been ranked very high (top 10) in many categories about quality of life in American cities. From talking to my nursing friends, they really like working at Huntsville Hospital. I hear good things about the ER and OR, and there are, supposedly, many opportunities for PRN. I asked my friend, who is an OR nurse, if it would be possible for a new employee to go to 1st shift, once I get my degree and start work. I figured she would say no, because in law enforcement, the newest people get the crappiest off days and hours. But she said it is possible, depending on what is open. Sorry I cant give you more details about HH or its programs, but I would not want to give you wrong information. I am just now applying to a nursing program, here. Hopefully someone who works there will give you the info you need and correct anything I told you if I was wrong. If you need any info on the best areas to live, schools, etc, please feel free to ask me and I will help you out the best I can. You will LOVE Huntsville!

No problem. I think I am too new to this forum to use the PM system, so you can email me if you are comfortable with that at [email protected]. You are not restricted to Huntsville Hospital, either. We have Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, as well. A very close friend of ours is a PRN there and she gets paid well. Also, there is a very new hospital in Madison which is a very nice city on the border of Huntsville. Madison Hospital (a division of Huntsville Hospital) is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Huntsville depending on time of day and traffic. Very Many people who work in Huntsville actually live in Madison. If I am not mistaken, Madison was named one of the top five cities in America to raise a family, about 2 or 3 years ago. You might want to look at those hospitals as well. Again, feel free to email me if you have questions or need advice about homes, schools, neighborhoods, etc.
