Humber Second Entry Nursing September 2019

Published

Hey everyone!

I just accepted my offer to Humber/UNB's Second Entry Nursing program for September 2019. I would love to start a Facebook group so we can all get to know each other before the program starts! ?

Hey there! I'm also starting Fall 2019! What prep courses are you taking?! ?

@senorsarcasm nice to meet you! I’m taking all of the prep courses except for intro to psych. What are you taking? I made a Facebook group for our year if you’d like to join! It’s “Humber/UNB 2nd Entry Nursing Class of 2021” ?

Nice to meet you too! My name's Christian! ? And I'm taking all of them except for Psych and Stats! I think I also requested to join that group as well. ?

Hi there, I’m looking to apply to the Humber program for 2020. Would you mind sharing what your average was to get into this program?

Hey there! For me, my final year average was a 3.94 and my overall CGPA was 3.15 (I did a Life Science degree at UofT). I also volunteer at a hospital's Emergency Department and as a Crisis Counselor for Kids Help Phone.

Hi, would you mind telling me how year one of this program went? There isn't any information online about it. What happens after the prep semester, are you placed into 3rd and 4th year nursing classes or is it a different set of classes altogether? Thanks ?

@Hoangkay we have just finished our prep semester and are into our first nursing semester. The prep semester was challenging, but doable. The profs were all amazing, supportive, and made the material incredibly interesting. This semester we have started one day of clinical per week in a long term care setting. We stay with the other ASP students in our year for the first semester, but in September, we will be placed with the third year students in the regular stream. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey @Hoangkay! Just as @EmilyRG1992 mentioned, we're currently in the first semester of the Accelerated program after the successful completion of the Preparation Semester in Fall 2019. The prep semester was honestly very manageable if you put the time/effort in and the professors I've had we're perhaps the best I've ever encountered in my academic career so far. I had to take only 3 courses but many people I know that needed to take all 5 were very successful. In terms of the semester now (and the program going forward), a lot of our courses are a blend of introductory courses along with some content from second/third year of the generic 4-year program. We're currently taking 3 courses and are in a clinical placement until the end of April. We know what it's like to be in your shoes so please let us know if you have any other questions! :)

How did you know how many prep courses you had to take? Was it automatically transferred over or did you have to apply for transfer credits?
What’s the schedule like in terms of classes & clinicals, are you able to maintain a part time job?
Thanks for answering all my questions!

I only had to take 3: Human Anatomy, Pathophysiology 1, and Microbiology. Transfer credits were automatically assessed when you first apply and you'll get an email telling you which prep courses you're supposed to take after you've been accepted. The first semester wasn't so bad in terms of the timetable; classes spanned from Tuesday-Friday but I only had one-two classes max per day so it was definitely possible to have a part-time job on the side (I even had/still have a work-study job on campus to ease working into my schedule). This semester we have two days of class and a 12-hour day of clinical placement. Just an FYI though that nursing theory courses are WAY different from most previous backgrounds in art/sciences so it was definitely a bit of an adjustment to get used to the larger workload. Overall, just put the effort in and seek help from your profs whenever you need it (they're all extremely nice from what I've encountered so far and come from really intensive backgrounds, plus they actually want to see you succeed).

I hope this helps!

Hello, please I just accepted my offer but I didnt get an email about the courses I will be taking, do you know if they send the email after tuition deposit have been paid or when. Thank you so much for your time
