HTN on Patient Records

Published

I was reading over a patient's records and for Past Hx they listed HTN, hypertension right? I looked at her B/P on assessment and it was 113/55, isn't that hypotension?

That makes a big difference doesn't it?

She's probably on BP meds.

So the meds lowered her from hyper to hypotension?

I don't have any previous medical knowledge so I'm curious. :)

Well, BP meds can cause hypotension. Usually they're held before it gets to that point. Like if the nurse feels the patient's pressure is getting too low, she can hold the med to prevent the pressure from dropping further.

Thank you for helping me understand!

on a quiet, non pained, patient....i wouldnt blink an eye lash at that BP.....unless i knew it to be different than their norm
