How do u get a hospital to pay for your degree?

Published

Okay so I was offered a job position at a Teen Clinic. I'm going to be doing basic office work. My employee says that I should look into having a hospital finance my degree since my ultimate goal is to be a nurse. But there's no association between the clinic and the hopital. How does this work exactly? I know that I'd be contracted to work for the hopital for x amount of years. But wouldn't I have to be an employee to qualify for this? What am I missing here? TIA

You need to check with personnel, they should be able to tell you. In all likelyhood if the clinic you work for is not associated with the hospital they probably won't pay for you to go, but you could probably get a job with them, or the clinic that you work for may pay for you to go. Also check your states website and with local schools. Somtimes they have what they call forgivness loans if you plan to work in a county with more of a need than others. Hope this helps, good luck!

A lot of hospitals offer the as "scholarships." In return, you agree to work for them one year as an RN for each year you received a scholarship. If you absolutely want to work at a place, then it's a good deal if you can earn one. If you don't like it, you're stuck unless you pay them back. Also, some hospitals offer a lot more than others. It might be that it's not as nice of a place to work.

I have a hospital scholarship, but I looked into it a lot before I agreed. My state also offers one and you agree to work in the the state at any hospital for one year as an RN for each year you get the scholarship. It's concurrent with the hospital one. Some states assign you to the hospital, this one does not.

Check with the human resources department, particularly when considering a job, as to what benefits are offered, including education. Remember, benefits are the less tangible "pay" you receive, the kind you don't see in your pay stub as a rule, but they are VERY important.

Best wishes.
