How did u decide on NICU

Published

I started school 11 years ago and had to drop out due to pre term labor with my 3rd child. I just started back in March of this year, and was amazed when i sat and thought about it how different i felt at different times. When i started my degree all those years ago, i was set on NICU then when i got pregnant again i thought no way could i do that and be pregnant ever, i would so always worry. Now that i have 5 children and i know i am never going to have another i am back to wanting NICU, i don't know that i ever REALLY changed my mind, i think it was the fear more than anything since i was having pre term labor. I don't really know what pulls me to it, i just have a very strong feeling about being in NICU as soon as i can.

Hi.

I actually never considered NICU while in school. I'd heard about it, wondered what it'd be like, but never really saw myself doing it. My last 6 weeks of practicum changed that, though. I decided I'd do a few days in NICU to get the experience. I LOVED it!! I went right up to my advisor's office to get the rest of my practicum scheduled in NICU. It's the only job that I look forward to doing. How can you not love your patient when they can fit in your hand! I am challenged by the sheer amount of knowledge I still need to learn right out of school, but I'll do what it takes!
