How Trauma RN stacks up?

Published

Hi everyone,

I am also preparing to make this career move...married with 2 kids, YIKES!! I wanted some opinions on my STATS if you would comment and what my chances might be??

6 years ER experience (1) Level I trauma the rest level 2 trauma

2 years Level 2 Trauma Program Manager - round on trauma icu pts with and without surgeons (spend most

day looking after trauma icu pts)

1 year Operating room Nurse (most recent...fell in love with CRNA position....awesome)

BSN 3.8 GPA (ADN i think was around a 2.7 (inmature idiot at the time)

TNCC Instructor

FCCS Instructor (Fundamental Critical Care Support)

ACLS, PALS, BLS

* Additionally my references would be from CRNAs/Anesthesiologist that I work with.

I have yet to take the GRE, but assuming I score pretty well and meet program requirements how do you all think I stack up. I know I am lacking true ICU expereince however I do think my interview and personal skills are very good ( Im a normal person!!)

I really think you need experience with PA/swan ganz catheters (not just inserting). You may get into a program but you will have rotations in cardiothoracic and need to be very comfortable with swans/advanced hemodynamics. I think you should try PRN in an CVICU while you are in the process of getting into school. This way you work with the meds/swans/alines enough before school starts.
