How do you study again??

Published

Hi everyone!!

I successfully completed my first semester of nursing school last month! It was a long road, but I am so happy with my accomplishment!

I'm starting semester 2 of 4 next week and as I'm getting myself together (writing down all due dates and exam dates in my planner, printing out calendars, and weekly to do list mock up) I'm feeling uneasy about the next semester. I still feel like I haven't grasped studying for nursing school completely.

I think it's because I work slow that makes me feel like I'm also kind of rushing to get stuff done. I have a friend that somehow manages to get her stuff down and has down time to relax and I don't feel like I ever have that.

Any tips? Ideally, I'd like to be able to go over material prior to class so that when I'm there I'm not learning it for the first time (that happened often my first semester), Manage my time better (so I can take those much needed breaks), and just feel more comfortable!

I'm in grad school and I like to make sure I know exactly what's due each week on a Monday and plan accordingly. I want to make sure I have at least some time over the weekend to relax. I try to get as much done early in the week or it hangs over my head and stresses me. Plan ahead and assign a different task for each day of the week so that you know you'll be done by a certain day and can get a little downtime. Good luck! I start back on Tuesday too!

Thank you! I actually just made a schedule that has a to do list for each week attached to do just that. I'm also a morning person, so I'm going to work on things in the AM.

Best of luck for your semester!

Hi!!!!

I am a new nursing student and I am going to start my first semester in March. I am so excited and nervous!!

I have the same feelings and ideas as you have...I work slow.

I heard a nursing chapter is usually over 30-50 pages. I wonder how you get this done?!

Do you take notes from the textbook or the lecture? I am not a good note taker. Any tips?

Sorry that I am not here to help you but ask you some questions...

Good luck on your second semester!!!

Thanks!!

Good day:

I use different color highlighters as well as underlining with colored pen/pencils for the text book so that any second, third, etc. readings can be more focused. I do ask for the syllabus/reading list in advance (for example for OBYGN, we got the reading list in early December which allowed those with focus to do all of the readings for the semester prior to this week where the semester starts; granted, not all professors are as accommodating; we didn't receive the Oncology reading list until two weeks before today -- so only some of the reading done). Take notes during lecture, and then review after the lecture to make any adjustments including any areas of the textbook for further focus.

Always, try to do NCLEX questions through the week. It really helps show if you are getting the material or not, as well as show areas that the professor may not have had time to cover (or even the book has to read) that you should review.

Hi!

I'm really excited for you!

I honestly can't get all the reading done. Some students can, but I just can't. I fall asleep every time. I read my book's chapter summary and thankfully my professors give us the slides the afternoon before. I read over the slides and see if there's anything that I don't understand. I then go to lecture, PAY ATTENTION, and write notes! I try to go over my notes after class by writing everything over. (Currently trying to find a good format for my diseases/disorders!) then I go in the next day with any questions

Hope that helps!

Good luck!
