How does a student prepare for lab practicals before the start of nursing school

Published

I was in an RN program back in fall 2012 and was kicked out due to supposedly failing a lab practical involving wound care. Right now I'm on a waiting list for an RN program in another school and it will start for me Spring 2015. For the theoretical portion of the RN program, I purchased the Saunders NCLEX study material. However that isn't what I got kicked out of the last program for and I want to fix that before entering the RN program for the other school. IS there any way I can prepare for the practical portion of an RN program before entering the program to be better prepared for what's to come? If so How can I do that? Where can I find the resources? Any helpful suggestions regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated

YouTube's a great resource for lab skills. We also use the Taylor Clinical Skills DVD set in my program, it's kind of expensive (around $50 for the 5-disc set) but there are used copies all over Amazon.

at my school, our classes were laid out in calendar format. We would know which lab we were doing wound dressings in, IVPB, IVP, etc so if your new school does that I'd check out youtube and just kind of see how others do it. we got graded on our skills so I would also suggest practicing as much as possible. our lab was open outside of lab hours for skills practice
