I am getting ready to start my second semester of nursing school and I just learned that my school will be switching from ATI to Kaplan.
Just wondering how Kaplan works during nursing school?
I am familiar with how you can use Kaplan independently but not how it is implemented during school.
Thanks!

Well im in a bridge program so it may be different but we use the focused tests for whatever unit we are covering that week. Then based on our scored we are required to do X amount of remediation on that topic. The integrated testing is proctored and they use it for continuous NCLEX prep and if your hitting certain bench marks. For example we just took one for the lpn vs RN scope of practice so our program could evaluate us if we were making the switch from LPN thinking to RN thinking. It's not for a grade though, we get extra points for doing remediation but a low score wont fail you but its an indicator you may not do well on the exam which could fail you.
Does Kaplan have books with review material like ATI?

My school started using KAPLAN last year (they used to do ATI). My cohort is the first to have it from day one. We can basically go in and take tests that we create, access online ebooks for content review and watch tons of videos. My school uses KAPLAN to give us a protored tests for each class we take every semester at the end of the semester. We usually take the proctored KAPLAN after our final, maybe even the next day. If we get a certain score, we get a point or two added to our lowest unit exam grade (only if all of our tests/quizes average >80 though). So basically, it is a way for the school to evaluate us and for us to have more resources for practice questions plus an opportunity to boost our grade slightly.
We do get a KAPLAN content book called The Basics our first semester. Then we get their NCLEX Review book our last semester (both availabel as ebooks in addition to the soft cover we get). The last semester, we take a ton of proctored tests in class along with the predictor tests and the NCLEX Review Course lead by a KAPLAN rep. We also have to do all of the Qbank questions. Seniors hated it, but they have all passed NCLEX so far.
Personally, I just study for the final and take the proctored test as if it is the NCLEX/giving my best effort, but not cramming for it. I like to use KAPLAN on my own to practice questions for the topics included in our upcoming unit test. Also, instructors typically assign several KAPLAN exams to be done throughout the semester on our own.
With KAPLAN, the big things are learning how to take a test using their Decision Tree and remediating for each question you ever take. THe emphasis is on learning how to do NCLEX questions and doing the remediation until the content is drilled into your brain. Very time consuming, but it pays off. I plan to do Uworld once I graduate before boards. Wish you the best!
