How to "demonstrate results" in resume

Published

So I've been trying to edit my resume so that it might catch more interviews but I'm having some trouble. I want to demonstrate results in the details of past employment instead of stating the obvious of what I did at each job. The problem is I have no idea how to do this. I don't have a lot of work experience and I am so new in the career I feel I haven't contributed anything unique or significant enough yet. I have worked at a nursing home for 3 months, as a caregiver to a young woman for a year, as a CNA on a tele unit for a year, and now an RN on the tele unit for a little over a year. Any suggestions on how I can make my resume ROAR (Results oriented and relevant)? Thanks so much!

Sangrita RN,

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds as if you've been reading resume-related articles online. As helpful as those articles can be, they aren't always applicable to all industries. ROAR and other results-oriented strategies typically apply to non-healthcare related jobs, such as sales, marketing, etc.

As a hands-on medical professional, your results and achievements are considerably harder to quantify in comparison to a Sales Representative. I recommend including a lot of detail on your resume (number of beds/patients in your unit, list some specific/advanced procedures you perform, anything unique that sets you apart, etc.) if you can. Try to avoid repetition and focus on your strongest, most relevant skills in relation to the job you are applying for.
