How oh how should I study?? TEAS

Hey guys! I just bought my study manual for the TEAS test. I won't take it for another semester so I am probably ahead of the game. I've seen that the TEAS test is hard... BUT then I hear that it isn't. Not only did I hear it was hard but I hear that it's one of the hardest tests. Idk if I believe that... ? How should I study for this. Idk what to expect I have a manual and plenty of time. What do you suggest? :confused:

I just took the TEAS yesterday. It is hard.

I had four months to study and I got the McGraw Hill Nursing entrance exam book, the ATI study manual, and the Peterson study guide for allied health. The ATI and McGraw Hill helped a lot for math and English. But the Science was ridiculous. I literally just clicked on any answer that appealed to my eye. I studied the Science portion for majority of my time and even made note cards and went to a tutor. But most of everything on the science was random. So I suggest studying now every section thoroughly and really really practice. Maybe even buy the online tests.

Hey Baybella91!

I took the test back in October and personally, I thought the science section was pretty tough. The questions are completely random and I wished I looked at the McGraw Hill science section before taking the test. I studied for the test a month ahead on and off using the ATI study manual. I think it's best if you can get the 2 practice exams from ATI too, I thought they were real helpful. Personally I felt that Form B was most similar to the test I received (the way the questions were asked).

Bio: I used ATI and looked up science questions online, used old class notes, but I didn't feel prepared enough for this section.

Math: pretty straight forward, the problems are basically the same as in the ATI manual

Grammar/Reading: I used ATI and I also bought a grammar book at the bookstore and studied that.

Most of what you need to know is in the ATI, the only thing I regret was not studying from McGraw for the Science portion. Best of luck studying! If you want, I think I still have some of my outlines and I can send them to you

If you're studying now, that's great! Good for you for being motivated :-) I took the TEAS two weeks ago and I was sick to my stomach for days worrying about how hard it was going to be. It was hard in a sense that I was stressed, feeling like I was under pressure and I certainly didn't want to let down my supporters from home. Once my appointment came around, I took a few deep breaths and went at it!

I did not buy the study guide and relied on sample tests and information from the web. I was a faithful browser to this site, reading advice and information from those who had already taken the test. I feel like I scored well, with percentages in the high 80s on everything except the English portion (my native language, go figure). I spent more time on things like algebra, practicing reading comprehension and metric conversions than I did on sentence structure. I scored a 66% on the English portion, but passed. My median score is at 80%, which satifies me. I would suggest practicing tests over and over again! Good luck!

That's great you're getting a head start on studying! Since you have plenty of time, you'll be able to fully see what areas you're strong in and devote the majority of your study time to reading and understanding the areas that need improvement.

What book did you get? When I was gearing up to take the TEAS V last September, I browsed these forums to find what other people suggested and ended up using the McGraw-Hill study book. I found it very helpful and informative, and I ended up scoring a 91.3%.

Regardless of the book (as long as yours has quizzes), I found it really helpful to go through the book and complete all the quizzes (including the mini-quizzes after the sections within the Chapters) and find the areas you were the weakest. Make sure you thoroughly read (and re-read!) and understand the sections you scored poorly on. Once you read through them, take the tests again on those particular sections and see if your score improves. If they don't, repeat the process until your score's better. For the sections on the quizzes you scored well on, you can just briefly read through their corresponding chapters to make sure you're grasping the main concepts.
