Hey everyone,
:typing Im new to the wbsite but i would like to know how long does it take to become an RN. I heard from my friends that it takes 2years at a community college so wonder if i wanted to continue and get a four year degree would that be the RN-BSN. What is the difference between bsn and msn nursing degrees. Does it have to do with how long you are in college or something, im a freshman in college i am lost.

It took me 2 years to get my prerequisites done, and it will take 2 years to do my nursing classes. I attend a CC because it's cheaper and they have an excellent NCLEX pass rate the last 5 years. I know some folks on here talk about accelerated classes for BSN that go all year round and finish in around 1 year, but you still need to consider pereq's unless you already have them all done. BSN is just a step before MSN. It involves more schooling and after you get your master's you can be a nursing instructor if you want. There are schools online that will let you go from RN straight to MSN which is what I'm going to do because I'm older I will probably want to teach after I work in the field for about 15 years or so... oh and welcome to allnurses!

ADN programs often take two years if you go full time. Again, this does depend on what prerequisites you have taken. If you have to do them at the same time it may take you 2 1/2 to 3 years. Most BSN programs have you doing prereqs for 2 years then nursing courses for 2 years. You can always do the ADN then work and use tuition reimbursement from your employer to get your BSN (many programs online).
Thanx alot
I understand alot better now
