I am new to nursing. I've been working on a med-surg floor for 3 months and I am not enjoying it. I was a CNA on this floor before I got my nursing degree. When I graduated, I wasn't sure which nursing specialty was for me and my manager offered me an RN position on my current floor and I took it. I am not happy where I am and I'm afraid I'm going to get burnt out quickly if I don't start considering other options. I don't want to be the person that hops from floor to floor and job to job. I want to show that I can persevere and give it my all at this opportunity because I know there are plenty of people that would love to be in my shoes. Therefore, my question is, how long is a good time period to stay on my floor before considering other options?

Since you verbalized that you don't really have a specific passion then I would stick it out for at least a year. What if this is just the natural growing pains of being a new nurse? I would get my bearings and then if you show up one day and they need to float someone offer to go (if it's not already you) to get a taste of others floors without needing to commit. You don't want to jump from one fire into another before you grow as a nurse, especially if you don't have a direction or specialty that you're interested in.
