Anywhere from 2weeks to 2years depending on: location, job, budget, background, experience, department, etc.. The important thing will be getting through the VetPro credentialing process which takes Min 45days.
This site has TONs of information that you can research for more detailed information. Good luck
I start a new job with the VA this coming Tuesday 01/03/12. I applied for this job in early August 2011. I didn't hear anything back until October when I formally interviewed. From my application date until now, I will have spent 5 months in the process. Things have been disorganized- I've had to resubmit things multiple times. My physical exam was rescheduled 4 times. Things move slowly, especially around holiday time. This is not uncommon- seems to be what goes on all over the US. I read the posts on here before I even applied so I went into it kind of knowing what to expect. I've heard this is one of the best places you can ever work. I will know for myself soon :) I precepted as a student at the VA on the floor I was hired on before I sent in my app. It also helped me in the hiring process I'm sure. I really loved the nurses I met while I precepted up there, and Vets are such a great population to work with. Best of luck, don't give up.
CNS, I cannot tell you anything about that specific location but will say you seem to be ahead of the game. Fingerprinting and Vetpro is the name of the game. Ive seen people wait weeks and weeks just to get the link.
If you want to be pro-active you might contact your references and let them know to be checking the mail everyday and fax a copy in addition to mailing back the orginal. Also, if you have not done so already it would be a good idea to order your "official transcripts" and have them sent to whoever is doing your credentialing as well as yourself (do not open them).
79tango..I have already submitted official transcript to the nurse recruiter..we have already discussed salary..I've completed my physical just waiting for them to complete investigation..I can say my references have not received anything as yet..I do thank you for replying to my thread..I have to wait its not so bad because I am working...

Calling all nurses who work for Veteran Affairs (VA)...I've heard that the VA can take a while to hire a nurse once the candidate initially applies. I don't always believe what I hear, and I know some situations may be random ones. So, I'd like to receive honest insight from as many of you as possible. My question is: How long did it take you to receive a response from the VA once you INITIALLy sent out your application? Additionally, how long did the entire process take from getting an interview to the time of your first day on the floor?? Thanks a bunch!
