How long is the actual class for each RN prereq?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm trying to figure a daily schedule. Anyone interested in letting me know how long the classes are? I work 7-3pm 4 days a week, and work every other weekend as CNA in a skilled nursing facility.

Today Im officially full time! I just hope I'll be able to do my RN pre-reqs by taking one pre-req at a time or two at a time depending on how long the class takes...

Any advise would help. I know Im asking a lot. Thank you very much in advance.

Each and every school is going to be different. But credit hours are generally based on how many hours a week you spend in class assuming a 16 week semester. The 4 classes typical for nursing programs with labs (Chem, A&P I&II, and Micro dont follow this rule, micro for me was 6 hours a week, Chem was 7 and I took A&P I&II in the summer so I can't provide any insight into a noraml load there, sorry.

Don't take this personally, I am only generalizing here. I know some people have trouble when they first go back to school after a long while because they need to retake placement tests or if you have never been for curriculum class. So if you would need to take these placement type tests to see about where you are Math and reading wise. If you fall under a certain range, you would need to take remedial classes before you can take some of the science classes, at least at some of the community colleges I know of. If this was the case for you, I would take these in one semester if you could (Like this summer), and get them out of the way. This would open you up for fall classes science or whatever else you needed.

As one poster said, it will vary from school to school, but most of the science classes I have came across are something like: 3 Hours, 2 days per week (one lecture class, one lab class)

Thanks guys for the info! I do have to take the CPT test. I am refreshing my math so I get a high score that way I wont have to take the remedial class. So was that 3 hours each day? I'll have to sit down after my CPT scores and see what the schedule will be. Thanks
