How to learn Hedis in order to apply for jobs

I recently read a lot about QI/QA on this forum, and this nursing specialty sounds so interesting. I really want to get away from the bedside care nursing. My friend recently got a job with healthcare insurance as a Utilization Review Nurse ( or something like that) and is very happy; she will also get full training. I just saw an ad in my area for Hedis Nurse Reviewer and Utilization Review Nurse; they want acute care experience ( which I do - 6 years of medical-surgical), and Hedi's knowledge is a preferred/big plus. I don't know anything about Hedis and am not sure if they will be willing to train me appropriately. I'm so confused if I should have applied for these jobs. The job of Hedis Nurse Reviewer involves traveling to Md/hospital offices, and I don't understand quite what I would be doing exactly.

Of those of you who work in that field- do you recommend reading certain books or getting specific certifications for these types of jobs? How do I learn Hedis before the job?

Hello, I have been a HEDIS Nurse abstractor for the past six years. I love this job, and I work out of my home, and the pay is excellent. For the most part, healthcare companies provide all equipment to work remotely. I am currently training for Hedis, including mastering software programs. Training is done via Webex; if interested, please let me know.

I have been a HEDIS nurse abstractor for the last six years; I love this job, I work from home, and the pay is excellent, and I make my year's salary in less the six months. I am happy because I get to spend the rest of the year with my family. A word of advice try taking a course in HEDIS abstraction. Some healthcare companies will hire and train you, but I will recommend taking the training. I used trainingforhedis.com, and it was the best investment I have ever made. I have been doing HEDIS for six years now, and I will not change it for any job. I work from my home, and the companies provide all equipment.

Hi, I know what that feels like! I have been doing HEDIS for the past six years, and I am very happy. As a Hedis Abstractor Nurse, I get to work from home; the pay is great, and best of all, I only work 1/2 a year, but I make the year's salary during my contract. I did the best investment training for Hedis. If you are still interested, let me know.

Hi, There are two ways you can do this.

1. Apply, and if you are lucky company will provide training.

2. IF you want to start on the right foot, I recommend taking the training and getting to know your staff.

If you are still interested, let me know. I have been a Hedis Abstractor Nurse for the past six years and would not change this job for any other.

Hi,

Yes some companies want you to have the knowledge and some other companies are willing to provide the training. But if you already know your staff, you'll have more chances to get the contract rather than keep waiting and you might not get hired. HEDIS is done once a year, and you can make a year's salary during that time. So if you are still interested, let me know so I can give you the training site.

If you need information on how to get training for HEDIS and job placement, please let me know. I am a HEDIS abstractor nurse and also a HEDIS instructor. If you want a job for the next HEDIS project, then take a training asap because companies will start interviewing very soon. I have been working in this field for the last six years, and I truly love it, and the pay is great!
