How to land a Mother/Baby or L&D job in NYC

Published

Hello All!

So long story short: I made a career change. I was an accountant and became a registered nurse. I was very fortunate to land a job after passing my board fairly quickly at a great hospital in NYC. I've been working in an inpatient oncology unit for almost 2 years now and know this isn't for me. I would love to get a job in Mother/Baby or L&D in NYC but haven't had any luck over the last few months. Are there any recruiters out that that I can reach out to in helping me land my dream job? I've tried applying directly to different hospital websites but seem to hit a wall at this point. I've even emailed my hospital HR asking if there was any way they can help pass along my resume but there was no response from them. I even got my ACLS to boost up my resume a bit. Any advice/recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Have anyone else had trouble switching specialties and want to share their experience?

Thanks and Cheers!

Have you considered getting your NRP certification and Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification? Also joining AWHONN could boost your resume as well. Anything maternal/newborn is hard to get into. Keep trying. Also, I know in my area many of the L&D RN residences and new grad programs don't have the 6 months to a year cap on experience. The L&D New Grad residency I'm in actually said 1 year of RN experience preferred. It wouldn't hurt to apply. Good luck!
