I am a nursing student currently and I do not see the calling towards it .I'm I capable of becoming an excellent nurse? Ofcourse!

But what I am worried about is my fulfillment in my service to others and even to myself .I love psychology and it has many career opportunities I am happy learning about it ...I am wondering how I can encoorparate my love for psychology with a nursing career ...I come from a family of nurses and hence breaking to my parents that I am not fulfilled in their career choice would be like stabbing them right in the chest.

A degree in Nursing has its perks as you are always assured of a job and can have a comfortable lifestyle .I am conflicted of where to draw the line between my happiness and my parents happiness.I am scared of going against there wishes only to find out that I was wrong only for them to scream in my face ' Ha ! I TOLD YOU SO

Hi,

There are a lot of options with a nursing degree like you mentioned- maybe mental health/psych nursing would be something you would be interested in? However, if you don’t enjoy nursing and are passionate about psychology, then perhaps you should explore switching majors. It is your life and you will have to work for many decades, not your parents.

Hi,

As a nurse you have a lot of options to consider, If you are passionate about psychology then I would explore that field of nursing. However, if you are early on in your nursing career and really want to switch then you could change your major. Remember, nursing is rewarding, and again as @Hope21 suggested it's entirely your decision not your parents. But if you're serious about switching do so early on. Hope this advice helps best of luck

Hi there, I suggest getting in touch with your advisor and expressing your thoughts to them. If you really do feel stuck then it might help to connect with real life nurses or psychologists and in seeing what they do. A good (but also bad) thing is that almost every patient that walks through those hospital doors has some sort of psych thing going on. Not in a derogatory way, but no matter what floor you rotate or work on you will see psych (there are even some EDs with psych units on them). There are also many nurses who specialize on in patient psych floors, as case managers, or you can even move on to become a psych NP (psych provider). I would suggest reaching out to anyone in your clinical realm about chatting w a psych nurse or a pysch NP.
