How I passed the Hesi A2 entrance exam....

Published

First off I want everyone to know I was trolling the internet for months trying to find out as much info about the HESI A2 exam and allnurses was a huge help for that. So I hope this info helps anyone just like me looking for answers....

Sooo I actually took the HESI twice the first time I got a 89 ugh and did not get into the school I was applying for....I'll break down my experience with the HESI entrance exam for you...

Sections:

Reading Comprehension

Understand conclusions, main subject, and what an article might be implying... really basic but can be tiring as there were 55 questions total most articles had 5 questions each....

First time:94

Second time:94

Grammar

Use the evolve study guide focus on on the word pairs, mostly you read a sentence and you're given a list of words and asked what word best completes the sentence or you'll be given a list of sentences and asked what sentence is grammatically correct...

Vocab

I really didn't study for this some people i know were studying words off of quizlet or memorizing tons of words me I just made sure i understood all the words in the evolve book and any I didn't, well I made sure I did.... If you're an avid reader you probably already have a decent vocab... That being said most the words are set up in sentences so that you can at the very least guess from the context what the word means.

Math

The easiest section by fair(if you prepare).. all you need to do is the math in the evolve study guide, period. just know that stuff forward and back and you will do great....

Chemistry

The best thing I can tell you is know the topics in the evolve study guide and then get a chemistry cliff notes book and with that combination you should do great and I would also suggest having taken at least basic chemistry... I also listened to chemistry lectures on ItunesU its totally free!

A&P

I dreaded a&p this one kept me up at night cause there is sooo much to it right? When it came to knowing the muscles and bones its super basic I used a site called anatomyarcade look it up it has all you need to know. Also know the ear inside and out...Know hormones where they're from and what they do....

Critical thinking

honestly i did not prepare for this at all. All the questions have to deal with being a nurse and how you would handle a patient in one situation or another... I got a 890 i think the recommended score was 900...

15 questions

I did math and sciences first and the english stuff last this is a 4 hour exam and for my school at least the sciences and math are what mattered the most so I needed to make sure I did those sections when I was at my best.... So my advice do the most important sections first.

My second exam went much better, I got a 94!.... after I finished my first exam I couldn't retake for 3 months so I sat down right away and made huge study guide, I used the study guide outline from caring4you.org and just added to it from cliff notes and the evolve study guide oh and I watched A LOT of YouTube tutorials Khan academy and Prof Finke were the best look them up!! it took me a solid month but I finished my studyguide and studied probably 4-5 days a week for about 2 hours a day(sometimes longer sometimes less) oh and I did math everyday until I got sick of it, I just kept doing the problems from the evolve studyguide over and over again.

And for anyone who is taking the exam a second time I will tell you the questions for me and some of my friends were not the same, most were different and Maybe a handful were the same or similar.

Also for each section there are 5 extra questions so you are actually graded out of 50 for English and math and 25 for the sciences...

Hope this helps if you have any questions feel free to ask.....
