How should I go about getting my nursing degree?

Hello all!

I'm planning on going to school, hopefully this September to get my nursing degree... however, I can't decide if I should get my 2 year degree and then go for my BS or just do the 4 year course for my BS. If I get my 2 year degree first, I can get a job (hopefully) while working on my BS. I'm not sure what to do... any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

I'm a big fan of the local community colleges for a quick, cheap and often times very good RN education first.

Not sure where you are located, but in north Texas nursing school is very competetive whether it is community college or a BS program. Community college programs are cheaper but not necessarily faster. You have prerequisites to take before taking nursing core classes (which are 4 semesters). My advice is check out each program and see what prerequisites you need and take. Afterwards apply to as many programs as you can. Because you never know which one you will be accepted to unless you have stellar transcripts. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies.... I guess I should mention that I live in Ontario Canada and the local college offers a program through the University of Ottawa so, there really isn't much compitition in my area... I'm more conserned about the amount of time this could take, should I just do the 4 years and "get it over with" as far as a BS goes or go w/ the two year first, find a job in my field (hopefully) then finish the BS.... do people find that it ends up actually taking maybe... 6 years to get a BS if I get an RN first or does it really seem to matter?

Thanks again!!

Nicky
