How do I get into a Boston nursing school?

Published

Hi

I am applying to pretty much all ABSN and Masters Entry programs in Boston at the end of this year/beginning of next year. I'm really interested in UMass, MGH, BC, Simmons, Northeastern but since I live in San Diego, CA I don't know anyone that can give me advice for Boston schools. I currently have a 3.2GPA with A's in nearly all my pre-reqs and a B in one, doing some voulunteering at a hospital, but these are things im sure nearly everyone is doing. Can anyone who is currently enrolled or applying offer any advice to what would better my chances of getting in?

Be careful about Massachusetts - I graduated in May 2009 and there are literally NO new grad RN programs at any of the Boston hospitals or community hospitals. In Massachusetts right now ( Sept 2010 ) a new grad RN can't even get a job in a nursing home. I have been out of school for over 1 year and the hospitals in Massachusetts actually say "New grad RN's do NOT apply"..I only got a part time job in a nursing home because I knew someone...and I work with a bunch of LPN's who don't know why all these new grad RN's want to work there. A new grad RN in Massachusetts can't even get a volunteer job at a hospital since the end of 2008 - there are no post grad med/surg new grad training programs in hospitals and the only ones I know of only let 3 or 4 graduates get in and they were probably working at the hospital as a CNA for 10 years before hand.

Thanks for the heads up. I hear getting a job in Boston. I plan on going there just for school and eventually coming back to california to find a job. There's just so many schools in boston that it gets so competitive :/
