I'm an RN with 38 years of experience in med surg, critical care, and some ER. I am looking for an entry level job in utilization review. I have no experience in this area but I have done some legal nurse consulting. What is the best way to break into this? Most of the jobs around here in UR seem to want experience. I am willing to get certified, but what is the best certification to get, and would it really help me find a job?

UR tends to focus on financial aspects of care - have you considered shifting into case management instead? In my part of the country, there are great job prospects for certified CM nurses. Most acute care providers are ramping up CM resources to cope with increasing cuts in reimbursement.
I didn't really want case management because I want something that is not on the front lines.
