Do I need some previous experience or Certificate in Nursing Aid to get in? My background is in Electronics Engg. Please advise me on what to do and suggest useful requirements for me to get in TAFE.

Thank you so much.

hi melanie! thank you, I kind of get it now. On why they call it "Enrolled Nursing" in the first place. It basically describes you as a Nurse who is "enrolled".

But I'm still confused. Do hospitals/nursing homes accept students even if they are just ABOUT TO ENROLL? Meaning, for example, Im a prospective EN student for next month. Can I get an employment on my own? This is what the TAFE guidelines say. YOu have to be concurrently employed while on this course.

Concurrently employed .............. are you about to try to enrol for a traineeship course minus the traineeship? Sorry if that's not the case ;) , but that's what it sounds like.

In NSW you apply directly to the hospital. Jobs are advertised on seek. How do I know? I just got accepted at Dubbo base! YAY! You need a first aid cert ( I got mine from a local ambo cost $ 120 and took a weekend) birth/marriage /drivers licence. I asked about the new TAFE pre-enrolled nursing course and was told everyone is taken on how well they do at interview. Hope this helps. Oh I did try for it in Queensland a few years ago but was told I needed at least cert 3 in aged care and it was going to cost me a heap to do. Here in NSW yu get paid by the hospital to do the course and your endorsed.

thanks for sharing that katie! my destination would be in Sydney by early 2007. Blacktown area.

As for the traineeship, I am first year BaSc Nursing, in Perth (Curtin) and I atrted working at a nursing home with no experience on a traineeship. I get paid the same as everyone else, I get cert 3 and then cert 4 for free I am permanent and everything this is which a national company Craigcare. They provide all your training and the formal education is on site once a month where you do assignments. It takes about 12 months to complete, but you get paid for your work, it is a realistic orientation to nursing, the RN's teach you things and you gain valuable experience and probably RPL for EN/RN.

Hope this helps.
