I have a question about getting an iv pump rate and infusion time with only the gtt/min and volume to be infused. I understood it at one time but I now for the life of me can't figure it out and it is really starting to bother me!! Any help would be appreciated!

The problem is:

What would the pump rate in ml/hr be infusing 1000ml at 25gtts/min? Also the amount of time in hours will it take to infuse?

I apologize but I don't have the exact wording of the problem as it was on an exam I took yesterday with no access to it now. Like I said before it is really starting to bother me, I have been trying to work it out since 10 am yesterday morning and I just can't seem to make sense of it. :uhoh3: Thanks in advance for any help!

I think I figured it out....I just couldn't leave it alone!

Solution:

time is the constant (1hour=60 min)

volume= 1000 ml

drip rate= 25 gtt/min

missing is the drip factor= 15 gtt/ml (i guess this is what you assume unless noted otherwise!)

SO:

1min X (V) 1000ml X 15 gtt (assumed) X 1hour

25 1 1 60

1 x 1000 x 15 x 1 = 15,000 = 10 hrs :yeah:

25 x 1 x 1x 60 1,500

Then to figure out infusion rate you just take the amount to be infused divided by the hours:

V = 1000 ml = :up:100 ml/hr

H 10 hrs

I think I got it now!
