How to get into this field?? Need a Change ASAP :)

Published

Hey there!

For the last couple of years, I've been having constant problems with my body (polyarthralgia, bad SI joint pain, limping, deep bone pain, stomach issues).... I just recently went through some tests and awaiting results. I'm in my early 30's btw lol. I work in a fast paced specialty clinic currently and looking into a less physically demanding nursing job. I thought QI/Insurance nursing would be perfect, as I love documenting, working on the computer, love to learn new thing, and it wouldn't hurt my back as much :)

I have applied at BCBS and another job I saw online last night, but not sure where else to look or how to go about this. I have my ADN and 5 years nursing experience. PLEASE, any advice/tips on this? I've been dreaming about it for the last few days now, ha!

Are you prepared to get your BSN? Depending on where you live, that may be necessary for that type of job. I suggest researching BSN possibilities so that even if it is not immediately necessary to land a current job in the field ... you would be able to discuss your BSN plans in an interview should it be "preferred." In my hospital, a BSN is the bare minimum degree to get into such as job -- and some of the people have MSN's.

Do you have experience serving on any unit-based committees that relate to this specialty? If you have avoided getting involved in such things, it would also be a weakness in your application. If there is any way to become involved now, I would take advantage of it. Not only will it educate you more about the field and help you know whether or not you might like that kind of work, it will help you get to know people in the field who can advise you about local job opportunities. The experience would also strengthen your applications.

Good luck to you. I hope you find something soon.

I am planning on starting my BSN next year. Thank you for the information! Some positions I saw only required and ADN and others (that stated supervisor or mgr) required BSN.

Keep in mind that what is stated in the job posted may be the "minimal requirements." You'll be competing with other nurses for these positions -- and sometimes that means going above the minimum to actually get the job.

Hello! I just had an interview with bcbs. I also have an ADN and I am in school but I have been fortunate to work in reviews and as a nurse administrator with just an ADN! I believe which job you are applyingfor matters because I saw bcbs hiring LPNs as medical reviewer 1 while rns were reviewers 2 and 3. Did u get either job?
