Hey Everyone,
I have been looking on here, and I apologize if this is a repeated question. I have been with a Home health agency in Texas for the last 2 years of my 3 year nursing career, and they have now started a hospice. They are new to this, and are trying to get it up and running. I have spent most of my career doing Hospice in CC. Now they are looking for me to do visits. So my question is what is a fair salary to ask for, or should I stay at per visit rate; and what is the going rate per visit? I guess I am also asking how to cover on call etc, since this is the first time I have done visits. I want to be fair since they are just opening the doors to hospice but, don't want to undercut myself ( for lack of a better word). Also they do not pay mileage, so I have to consider this as well. One more question, can an LVN go to a death call and if yes do they call the MD for a verbal order to pronounce? Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for your time and replies.

I'm a CC LVN in California. Here, any RN or LVN can do the death visit and/or call the death if it occurs during CC. I don't know if that is only for California, but I know that in hospice we can call the death and it isn't even a physician's order as far as I know. At least we don't chart it that way. We just have to chart that the physician was notified. I was thinking of applying for a visiting job with a per diem rate and was told by another nurse who worked as the office manager that I should ask for $30 per visit. This was also at a place that did not pay mileage. Going rate here for an LVN with some experience is $20-$24/hr, so that seems in line considering mileage. I know it's a different state but hope this info helps.
