How do you decide where to work?

I currently shadow in a huge Children's hospital on the Pulmonary/Gen Med floor and I love what I do, but I would be bored senseless if I was a nurse there. Nothing exciting EVER happens. They just do routine things day in an day out.

I like excitement. I need to be stimulated. Things like codes, traumas, etc. PLEASE don't take that the wrong way - I would love it if no one coded and there were no traumas, but it does happen and I want to be the person there helping to take care of it.

Any ideas of a good place to pick? I was going to pick those areas of my elective rotations for my BSN and then (hopefully) get in as a new grad RN!

Thanks :balloons:

Specializes in ICU.

A big deciding factor for me is who is paying back student loans.

Well I found a huge university hospital that will pay the tuition for someone to do a 1 year accelerated BSN program if they agree to work at the hospital for 2 years. So, loans won't be an issue for me. I just need to decide what type of nurse to become!

So many options for specialties. Eeek.

You got a good deal! Anyways, it sounds like you want to work in the ER or Trauma ICU.
