How to deal with an impossible professor for A&P...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello all.

Okay, so here it goes. My A&P 201 professor is a nightmare. First off, he recommended that we buy this $150 book and it turns out that he is going by the book from last semester that is not even in print anymore. OMG!

He is difficult to understand in class and is literally rude and arogant. He refuses to answer questions that are asked, gives the answers for the lab practical to "some students" and will not even talk to others. Obviously he has his favorites. I am extremely aggervated with his performance and mind-set.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this type of situation? It has gotten to the point where I am no longer excited about this class when it should totally be the opposite. HELP! :bowingpur

Email the professor, dont be rude or disrespectful but let him know you are really having trouble and want to discuss some things that are hindering you in the class. Or you can always set up a meeting during his office hours so you can speak with him in person. Just be open and honest..as long as you're not rude, he cant be upset with you. You're in college now, you're paying money to be there, so you have the right to speak up if you're not getting what you need. If he doesnt respond or wanna help I suggest you talk with the department head and speak with them regarding your problem with this professor. Do whatever you gotta do..A&P is the foundation of alot of your nursing so it helps if you do well..dont let this professor mess it up for you.

Thanks for replying. I have talked to my professor and I made a time to meet with him. He was very nice and stated that he would help me in any way. However, in class he is a totally different person to the point where he will not answer my questions unless I ask him in persn. I do not know. I am trying not to feel like it is personal. However, I do fill that way and it bothers me. I have a C in the class right now but I am really afraid that I am going to fail. Due to limitations that are being put onto me from my parents...which is totally understandable...there is no way that I can fail this class. I am extremely worried to say the least.

My advice would be to see him during his office hours to ask questions if they do not get answered in class, as you said he was a lot nicer out of class. This will also build a little bit of a relationship with him, so maybe in class YOU will be the one who gets the answers for lab. Also, I don't know if they do this at your school, but at mine they have free tutoring services in the library where you can get a private tutor for an hour a week in any subject. This might be really helpful, tutors have really good tricks for memorizing things and will be able to answer those questions you did not get answered in class. you could also probably review your labs with the tutor to make sure you are getting everything.

Good Luck. Stay Positive!
