How competitve is the University of South Alabama?

Hello, how competitive is the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL for its 2nd degree BSN program? Does the state of Alabama welcome outsiders into its nursing schools (people from other states)?

They are open to outsiders, but the competition is fierce. Accepting 50-60 students out of 500 applicants. High GPA with your sciences and math is very important. If you have most of this criteria, you should do fine. Good Luck!

USA is very transfer friendly, but it is very competitive to get in. If you have a high GPA (I would say a minimum of 3.5), then you shouldn't have too many problems. Good luck!

I live in California and applied for the Accelerated BSN program at USA back in February. I meet all their requirement and my prereq GPA is almost 3.4. I really like the pace of their problem and the cost is fairly reasonable. I have never been to Alabama, but thats the least of my worries.

At first, I was told that they process applications on a first-come-first serve basis, but I was later told after all my documents were recieved that I have to wait till April 1 to find out my status. Do I have a chance????

That sounds about right. I applied in August of last year and wasn't informed of my acceptance til mid October. As for the first come first serve basis, I don't recall that policy. I was told number of applicants is very high, so acceptance is based on GPA.

I have to tell you though, the accelerated program is EXTREMELY intense. I think the majority of the current students had 4.0 GPA (or close to it) coming in. Needless to say,we had to break the A's only mentality really quick. Receiving B's and C's was not easy to adjust to. I'm not trying to scare you, but just want to prepare you if you do get it.... It's doable just very mentally challenging.

Very..I graduated from the accelerated BSN program in 06. We lost only 2 out of the original 21. Once you make it past the entrance criteria and get accepted into the program, it's all downhill from there...very easy program...just writing intense.

I disagree w/ the A's only mentality...the majority of my USA accelerated program classmates as well as myself made >91% on most tests and research papers. It was a rarity to make a C. I personally hold the belief that the program was a breeze...fast paced, writing intense, challenging, but a great prep for real world nursing...slackers need not apply.

I guess your group is smarter than our group. Agreed that papers were easier to get A's in. Tests on core materials were not. C's were not uncommon. But out of 21, 17 of us made it. Quality of instructors in the accelerated were of higher caliber IMO.

I actually just sent my application in to them yesterday. However, last week I had talked to them. (Not about the accelerated program, but about the traditional track) They said they usually recieve 300-400 applications and only have 120 seats. They also said that the first person on the waiting list had a 3.39 GPA but DID get seated.

As far as finding out if you are accepted or not...they send the letters out approximately 2 months from the dealine of submitting your application.
