Hi Skim11,
Yes I did go to essex county actually I'm still there this is my third semester one to go. Overall I would say that the program is good. Very challenging because everything is condensed, alot of information in a short time span. The professors are great. The lpn program there is small and intimate which I like. The nursing director also teaches and she is very supportive. The other thing that is a plus is that by the 2nd week of your first semester you will be doing clinicals. I think you should definitely apply for the fall. Oh one more thing since I been there. The two classes that were before mine have all taken and passed the Nclex. Be prepared to be stress out a little. learn how to manage your time. The book that they use sucks, so I would look for other resources to help you. I will tell you the book that I use it was very helpful. I can't think of it off hand I will post it later. Good Luck. I will see you when you get there. I finish in October.
The entrance exam I would say was not so much as hard but very time constricting. I had alot of physics on mine and the reading portion was difficult. The passages were a difficult read, then you didn't have enough time to answer. At the end of my exam I had to pick anything because I had about 20 questions left with only two minutes to answer them. If you look on Essex county web site and go into the nursing section, it tells you what book to purchase for the exam. The test I had covered almost everything in that book. However, I don't know if they are using the same test. I definitely wish you good luck. and I know you will do fine.
Thank you, Moe960!
I'm very excited, but also nervous and scared...
I don't want to bother you..but when you get a chance, can you give me the name of resource book that you use? Also, do you have a syllabus for fundamental of PN? I just want to know the schedule and how the course runs. Thank you sooooo much!!! =)

I'm currently scheduled to take the entrance exam for Essex County College LPN program. I have also applied to New Community Workforce Development LPN program. Not sure which one to go for. Need some help, I don't know how to chose the right program. Essex County cost about 9,000 not including books and uniforms. New Community cost 12,000 not including books and uniforms. New Community program hires about 40% of the graduates in a nursing home environment. Essex County doesn't have any type of placement program that I know about. However, if you want to advance, Essex County has lpn - rn articulation. New Community does not, not even sure if NCC courses are transferrable. Any kind of input would be greatly appreciated.
