Hi,
I have to do a paper on a burn patient. I am trying to figure out calculation the percent of major burn.
Here is the scenario:
13 Y/O received burns when her father fell asleep with a cigar. Child sustains full thickness burns over the upper half of her chest and back and the posterior aspects of both upper arms. She also sustained superficial partial-thickness burns to her face, neck and hands.
Based on this information my chart states the head as Area A =1/2 depending on age. 13 year old would be 5 1/2
So since just the face sustained partial thickness burns I calculated the burn for that area as 2.75 %.
Upper arms are 4%,back posterior aspect 6.5%, upper chest 6.5%, neck 1%, hands 3% and upper arms 4%.
When I added them up I got 23.75%
Am I in the right direction or is there a better way to calculate this type of burn?
Thanks
Dee
