How to Best Explain This

How do I best explain my previous academic probation on my application? I was placed on academic probation in undergrad the semester after I returned  from a medical leave of absence. I had an eating disorder that nearly consumed my life and I was struggling to manage my job, intensive outpatient therapy several days a week and 5 rigorous classes (feelings of isolation, depression, etc as it was basically my second attempt at my freshman year). I don’t want to make it sound like I was just not fully prepared to return from my medical leave to begin with, but essentially that is what happened. I got off probation the following semester, and I graduated, but my overall GPA really suffered from that semester.

What is the application for?

Application for an accelerated nursing program. Thank you for asking! I should have clarified.

From what I have read here on AN, the GPA for the sciences has the most impact on your admission. Strong recommendations from faculty would also probably help.  I have only taught in traditional programs but it is not uncommon for students to have a rough semester. Stressing how you used available resources to improve YOU and your classroom achievements would enhance your response in an interview or essay. You do not need to provide every detail, simply summarizing you had a health problem you needed to deal with,  which was competing for your school-dedicated time. Did you cut your work hours then? Something to add if so.

Great advice! Thank you!
