How to be the best candidate: BSN Navy

Specialties Government

Published

I know that good grades are very important, and I plan on keeping my GPA as high as possible considering I do not have any other obligations while I'm in nursing school.

My question is, what can I do to make myself a better candidate?

I was thinking about learning a foreign language (I took ASL, but I'm thinking more along the lines of Farsi, Italian, German, etc.)... Will that pigeonhole me? What other recommendations do you have for bettering ones self before applying?

I'll be done with my BSN in December 2016, and my health officer recruiter said that in October 2016 we can start my packet.

I just want to be the best me I can before the Navy shapes me into something even better.

Thanks in advance.

Keep your GPA as close to 4.0 as possible, do community volunteering, get in the best physical shape that you can, obtain any certifications that you can. You need to make yourself as well rounded as possible. As far as the language I do not think that will help much since most nurses will not be in any billet (job) which will require it. Will it hurt no, but I do not think that it will give you much of an advantage.

You would think community volunteering would be on my radar but it slipped my mind somehow. Did tons of it during my prerequisite classes, will pick it up again for sure. My GPA is a 3.89 right now, plan on keeping it up that high. Thanks for the info on languages.
