How to apply NCLEX for the Canadian RN?

Published

I'm a Canadian RN. I am just planning to take NCLEX in California. I got BScN from the Canadian University. But I have no idea if I need send my application to CGFNS and take the CGFNS exam or send my application to California Board of Registered Nursing. Anyone has the same experience? Thanks!

I'm also a Canadian RN and will be taking the NCLEX on October 17th. I applied through Minnesota - had to fill out an application, have the RNABC send confirmation of registration and then register with Pearson for the test. I'm also working with CGFNS which I understand I will need in order to get the TN Visa. Hope that helps

Hello mardibc

Many thanks! So we can send our application to Minnesota's board directly. And then we need register the NCLEX and write it. After passing NCLEX, we need apply visa screen certificate from CGFNs. With visa screen and job offer, we can apply the TN. Is that correct?

Good luck for your test!

Yes, you can go to the Minnesota Nursing Board's website and download the forms. I sent mine in, had to have the RNABC send confirmation of registration to them and then registered with Pearson. I had my ATT in less than 2 weeks. CGFNS was a bit more involved as they will have your nursing school complete forms as well. You can apply to them anytime - even before you have your ATT. It's probably a good idea as the documentation they require is more time consuming - you have up to one year to complete everything needed - including passing the NCLEX. Once that is all done, with an employer's letter you should be able to get your TN visa. I'll let you know more after I take the NCLEX in two weeks!

Hello mardibc

Many thanks, how about your NCLEX test? done? Good luck! By the way, do you use "Exam application packet for Canadian RN by exam applicants"? Compared with forms from CA, Minnesota's forms are very very simple. I am not sure if this one is what you used. Thanks!

Hello mardibc

Did you submit your transcript to the Minnesota Nursing Board? I didn't see the transcript is required in the application. There are three forms I need complete.

1. Registered nurse licensure by examination application (complete this by my self)

2. Confirmation of program completion for licensure by examination (I need make school to fill this form)

3. Verification of licensure (I need send this form to where issure my RN-licence)

4. Fee

5. Evidence that you have not engaged in conduct warranting disciplinary action.

Therefore I need send out (3), in my application package there are only 1,2,4,5. Is that correct?

Many thanks
