Houston, TX cheap nursing school?

Hello everyone.

I am moving to Houston, TX and would like to continue my studies in Nursing. I just finished my first quarter at CSCC and I understand that I'll have to pay whopping out-of-state fees in Houston. Are there any locals that can suggest a cheaper alternative? For example, CSCC charges about $180 per hour for out-of-state, and HCC cost is about $ 350! I'd say that the difference is disturbing, considering that's the price for a full year:uhoh3:

Welcome to Houston! This is a great time of year to relocate to H-town - the jungle-heat is pretty much over for a while & it's not monsoon season yet - LOL.

I understand your frustration with the tuition costs, but HCC - like all other CCs - is supported by taxes paid by local residents in their districts. They are not obligated to provide services at the same cost to anyone who is not entitled to those services. Do you know where you will be living? We have a few different CC districts, and if you are not living 'in district', you will have to pay higher tuition even if you are a bona fide Tx resident. You can go on the websites to see where the district lines are.

Once you have established residency, you will have in-state rates also. This will take 12 months. I would suggest applying as early as possible, since you may not be accepted right away. Admissions are very competitive.

If you are interested in a BSN, both Univ of Tx and Tx Womans Univ are state universities, with low tuition. University of Houston is also a state uni, but does not have a nursing program in Houston - only in Victoria.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll have to pay more for a full year. I think I'll be around Memorial City mall and I'm sure there is a CC around there. I understand that the prices are based on taxes that we all pay, but my frustration comes from the huge difference in out-of-state prices between my CC and HCC. While the cost per credit hour is pretty much the same (for residents), the out-of-state in HCC is twice as much:eek:
