Hi. I am a Senior in college in NY and I'm getting married in January. Ill be moving to Houston and am in the midst of applying to nursing schools. Im a little lost and overwhelmed. Can anyone tell me what are the two year programs to get a traditional BSN in Houston? It seems as though its necessary to take both the Hesi2 and the Net test is that true? Are they strict about transferring classes? Any information on Houston school would be really helpful!! Thanks:wink2:

You need to contact the schools your interested in applying to about transferring credits. Every school has different requirements and some are more strict than others. Just a heads up, houston is VERY competitive when it comes to nursing school especially UT and TWU. I suggest branching to other schools, because I know many ppl that had a 4.0 and were rejected. I'm not trying to scare you, its just a warning

The wait for the nursing programs is pretty tough here in HOuston due to EVERYONE wanting to do nursing...which is a good thing. We need more :)
ADN programs (associates-RN) Location all depends on where you move to. Houston is SO BIG.
Houston Community College
Cyfair College
San Jacinto
Montgomery College
Alvin Community College
TRADITIONAL BSN programs
UT-Houston
PV-Med Center
TWU
UTMB-Galveston
There may be more ADN programs. I would apply to EVERYTHING that I possibly could. You can always bridge over. Of course shoot for a BSN...

Like everyone has said, houston nursing schools are highly competitive. Since you will be transferring from out of state, you will need to complete the Texas core curriculum in your previous degree if you want to graduate with a BS in nursing even if you already completed a core curriculum elsewhere. I know this is true for texas A&M's nursing school..i'm not sure for the other nursing schools. I'm not sure what the associates program requirements are like, but for texas universities to award a BS to a student, they need to have required the core. This includes texas government... i'm pretty sure you haven't taken texas government, so i'd highly suggest getting into an online distance class for this course.

I'm doing a career change and I really don't want to be in school long. I realize a BSN would be the best but however I want to get in school out and working. Do you thin HHC is a good choice. Do I need to apply?
