Houston Evening Programs/Accreditation/Job Outlook

Published

Colleges that offer evening nursing program's are few and far between. The only two programs in the Houston area I've even found that offer evening classes are HCC and Lone Star Kingwood. The difference between the two of them, one of them is accredited (Lone Star--NLNAC) and one of them is not (HCC). I have a few questions and would really appreciate your feedback.

1. Are there any programs in Houston that offer late afternoon/evening/weekend classes besides these two schools? If you've attended one of these programs before, could you offer any input and did you maintain a full-time job?

2. I would rather have my BSN, but right now there's just not a program that would work for me right now so ADN looks like the best route for me. I've been reading that students who graduate from schools that arn't accredited have a harder time getting into an RN-BSN program and finding work. Is this true?

3. Lastly, I've been reading a lot of post from students/recent grads and a lot of them are saying they are having a hard time finding work. Is this true and if so, why is this the case when there is supposidly a nursing shortage? Any information or input is greatly appreciated as this is a big decision to go back to school.
