Housing for travel nurses?

Just curious what housing is like for the traveling nurse? (I know this is a pretty general question)..

My husband and our two kitties and myself just accepted a traveling assignment and I am curious as to what the "provided" housing is like. I know we can get our own, but that seems like a lot of work to move all our stuff every few months.

Is it clean? Nice furnishings? Safe neighborhood?

Thanks!!!

Housing for travelers can be a hit or miss depending on your agency. I've always used Craigslist, but have visited other friends who are travelers, and you generally get one bedroom, one bath and basic utensils provided. Most apartments don't accept pets, so let your company know so they can provide housing that allows your cats to come along.

Clean, Nice Furnishings (Pottery Barn) & Pet Friendly is usually the standard. You should also be able to upgrade to a 2bedroom at no cost.

Varies widely from one area to the next. I've always had a furnished, at least one bedroom (sometimes 2 or three if that was all that was available). I've been placed in everything from a luxury turnkey condo to a double wide trailer (in a very small town) to a 100+ yr. old adobe. I see it as part of the adventure.

That said, I would not move into a place if it was in unsafe condition or area. This is why I always arrange to arrive at a new place early on Friday so that I can contact my housing person if necessary.

Do make sure that your coordinator knows about the pets before renting a place!

My first location was a 2 bedroom but it was crappy. Old, smelled bad, crime in the complex. I hated it, and my company didn't care. Wouldn't relocate me.

Now (not with the same company) I live in a condo that I would vacation in. I love it, amenities are wonderful, place is clean and modern.

Just depends, but try to get the details before you go. The first company wouldn't tell me the address until 3 days before I moved. Should have been a clue, but it was my first go around.
