Housing close to UMB SG?

Hey everyone, I will be starting UMB SG, gosh, in a few weeks. I will be relocating from quite a few miles away and need to find a room hopefully within biking distance to campus. Any tips for finding such a place? Craigslist my only shot? Any other students want to get a place? :)

Shady Grove is a suburban, commuter campus and there are not scads of apartments or rooms within biking distance, although we at least have free parking. I wish you luck finding something like that but you should also consider the College Park area - lots of student oriented housing there, or further north in Gaithersburg, Germantown or Frederick. In any case, once you start clinicals you will need a car. Carpools are often arranged in clinical groups but you will have no way of knowing that anyone in yours lives close enough to you to do that. While the majority of our students live in Montgomery county, many commute from further away. I know that Student Services has a brochure about local rentals - try them at 301 738-6023 but call before Thursday - campus is closed from then through January 2.

Hey thanks so much for the info! I do indeed have a car, but I prefer to live close to school so I don't spend all my life in a car. Let me know if there are any other ideas floating around. Thanks!

I currently live in the RIO, and it is not to far away from the Shady Grove campus. It is a 5-10 min drive. There is also Fallsgrove Shopping center and apartments which is very close by.
