I always get at least 8, many times 9. I refuse to cheat myself on sleep! I want to be fully alert while at work, and I find that I have more energy and think clearer when I get plenty of sleep. I work 8.5 hour shifts, with a 10 minute commute, so it is easy to accomplish this. Back when I worked 12-14 hour shifts, and drove farther to work, I would be sleep deprived. After falling asleep while driving (twice) I will not work 12 hour nights anymore. I will work 8 hour nights on occasion, but with the 12's, you simply don't get enough sleep. When my kids were still living at home, my house would be spotless, dinner cooked, etc., but now that they are grown and gone, I prefer to sleep, house be darned!
I need an "other" option.... I usually sleep in on the day before I go in to work (I work all my shifts in a row), but rarely nap leading up to my shift. I may sleep from 11p-11a prior to my shift though. Then I will work, come home, and sleep all day... and get into my nocturnal routine until it's time to switch back to life with the daywalkers. :)

On average, how many hours of sleep do you get before a shift?
I already voted... I get about 7 hours of sleep.
