12 hour clinicals

Hi

I am new to allnurses, but a long time educator. We are considering 12 hour clinical rotations for our students and am wondering in anyone out there uses them or has literature references for them

I'm a new RN and I love my 12-hour shifts. But when I'm done, I get to clock out, go home & relax.

As a student, it would have been awful to do 12-hr clinicals. I had 8-hour clinicals and at night I had to spend a lot of time writing out care plans & finishing other paperwork due the next day for clinicals or studying if I had class the following day. I can see doing 12-hr clinicals *IF* there is no paperwork due the next day. Otherwise, it is just too much.
